“I’m a fantasy and sci-fi nerd, i don’t do horror, unless it’s an action horror, but i also love comedy – most kinds.”
How DeckBox Games was Born...
Husband, father and dedicated lover of boardgames, I have never been more entertained than grabbing some cards, working out some stats, rolling some dice and pushing miniature figures around a card (or paper) map.
My love of board games goes back to childhood. Yes, Monopoly, Game of Life and Trivial Pursuits were the pickings of the day back then, but all that changed with the introduction of D&D and Games Workshop. I was mesmerised at the limitless possibilties of the imagination.
I was hooked.
Today that all forms a blur of stories in my mind, fighting dragons or a deadly guild of thieves, racing down post apocolyptic highways in a car (if you can call it that) looking for the next big win or kill. Judge Dredd, Space Marines, Titans, Magic and Fantasy, Star Wars and so much more were ready at my fingertips – and on my tabletop.
Whilst life did take over for a few years the gaming bug was always inside me, laying low, waiting to be given the green light to jump out and create a tabletop war zone or to grab a bunch of cards and do battle in mighty arenas.
Around 2015, i had the itch to do something with all this gaming experience. In the past i had written solo modes for many of my large multiplayer games, just for personal fun.
I designed a roll to move racer. Oh, it was more awful than what you’re thinking right now. My gaming muscles hadn’t flexed in around 14 years. I needed to rethink my strategy.
Years went by as i scribbled down rulesets, ideas scratchy drawings, layouts and basic designs. Around the beginning of 2019 i hit upon the idea of having games that were large in scale and design, but small in physical size. Not a unique idea per-se, but to put them into a plastic deckbox so they were easy to throw into a backpack without worry of them getting damaged – now that is something no one else had done.
That’s where we got our motto – “DeckBox Games – big box tabletop experiences in a small portable package”.
Desiging and playtesting at home (we all remember 2019), until i was able to get them out to the fair folks of the gaming world to have a proper test. I had designed three games to the point of possibly being ‘ready for crowdfunding’. 2020 – 2025 and playtesting, playtesting and even more playtesting, the games became more refined and infinitely more enjoyable.
So, today – as i write this in 2026, I have 3 games that will be hitting kickstarter and hopefully your gaming tabletop this year. Have a look through the games listed on the site and see what you think to my games. I hope you’ll see something you like.
Over the many years i’ve been working on this project, i have also created a further 12 games titles – all is various states of design and playtesting for what i hope will be a bright future in gaming from DeckBox Games.
I’ve met with and am working with some incredibly creative and highly talented people.
During this journey, i offer a huge thanks to Melissa Hunt, Alessio Cavetore, Andy Chambers, AJ Porfirio (of Van Ryder Games) and Sir Ian Livingstone (and of course, my wife for putting up with all this nonsense day-in-day-out). Also a huge special thanks to George & Kat for your invaluable insights and support over the months.
I must also acknowledge the incredible help i’ve had from the owners and patrons of local game stores such as Boards and Swords, Distinct Gaming, Wargame Tournaments, Manaforge, Outrider Games, Patriot Games and Element Games to name just a few – but this list does keep growing daily!

Thanks for reading down to here, I hope my games can bring you the same enjoyment I have experienced over the many many years.
